GIF Non-Electric Application of Nuclear Heat (NEANH) Database
NEANH Database Background
This inventory of activities relating to non-electric applications of nuclear heat was populated by the GIF Non-Electric and Cogeneration Applications of Nuclear Energy Working Group (NECA WG). The NECA WG evaluates energy systems as alternatives to the use of fossil fuels as a source of thermal energy, and energy services that are complementary to the electric grid. This approach is designed to optimise energy utilization efficiency, system economics, and decarbonisation.

The NEANH Database will be maintained at a regular cadence, and is an evolving document. New versions will be released, and may differ in format, content, and style. Please check the NEANH website for the latest version.
The NEANH database includes reference information in the following categories:
- Studies: Research studies related to non-electric applications of nuclear heat.
- Collaborative Initiatives: Collaborative projects and initiatives in the domain.
- NECA Systems: Information on systems that have operated, are currently operating, or are under construction.
- Modelling Tools: Tools available for modelling these applications.
The GIF NEANH database is publicly available since 2024-01-10.
Version 2.0 of the GIF NEANH database was made publicly available on 2026-08-26.
Contribute to the NEANH Database
GIF encourages experts and the public to submit an entry to the GIF Non-Electric Applications of Nuclear Heat Database to help ensure the information is complete and up-to-date. Each entry will be submitted for consideration by the members of the GIF Non-Electric and Cogeneration Applications (NECA) Working Group. Submitted entries will be reviewed and approved on a monthly basis.
