The Policy Group and the Experts Group, which are the primary governing bodies of GIF, convene biannually. These meetings are crucial for receiving progress updates from each GIF System Steering Committee, Working Group, and Task Force.
Additionally, they are the meetings where the GIF leadership meets to strategize and make pivotal decisions regarding the future trajectory of GIF's initiatives.
Overview from the 55th EG and 61st PG meetings
The 55th Experts Group and 61st Policy Group meetings were held from 13 to 17 April 2026 in Sanya, Hainan Province, China. More than 70 participants from all GIF member countries gathered to contribute to GIF activities and advance collaboration. The meetings opened with two “Common Days”, during which System and Working Group participants reported on progress across GIF systems and activities.
GIF hosted the 2nd Industry Round Table on the margins of the EGPG meeting in China. The session brought together representatives from Chinese industry and research organisations with GIF members, which highlighted the importance of cooperation across government, industry, and research institutions. A dedicated Fuels Deep Dive session on the sustainability and economics of fuel cycles for advanced reactors was also held. This session discussed changing international perspectives on fuel cycle priorities, as nuclear energy is increasingly integrated into long-term energy strategies in many countries.
